The Bears beat the San Mateo Bearcats 7-5 in extra innings during their matchup a few weeks ago. However this Thursday night M-A was not able to produce the same results, ending up with a 4-3 loss.

San Mateo scored a run in the second inning to take an early lead. The Bears first run came when pitcher Emily Katz hit a double to enable first baseman Erin Goode score. Delilah Kline followed with a single hit, allowing freshman Ashley Tiznado, pinch running for Katz, to score. This gave the Bears their first lead 2-1. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Bears entered the sixth inning with a one run lead.

The Bearcats began the inning with a triple base hit deep into right field. The next batter bunted, but Yesenia Garcia successfully threw her out at first. Goode threw the ball back to the catcher, Sarah Tiemann, in an attempt at a double play. Despite disagreement from the M-A fans, the umpire declared the tag was late, giving San Mateo a run to tie the game. An error on the next play allowed one more run in before Emily Katz brought the Bears back to the plate by striking out the final batter.

With San Mateo ahead 3-2, Goode hit a double to the far edge of right field. A hit by Kline brought Goode home to tie the game 3-3.

San Mateo scored their final run off a sacrifice fly hit deep into right field during the seventh inning. This gave them the lead once again 4-3.

The Bears came out to bat, but quickly acquired two outs. A pop fly was dropped to keep M-A’s hopes alive, however the Bearcat’s pitcher caught the next hit to end the game 4-3 San Mateo.

The Bears will take on South San Francisco next Tuesday and Mt. Eden for their senior night on Friday, May 15 at 4:00 PM.
